The Origins of Doha Project has used the Top Secret satellite image of Doha taken on the 12th of December, 1966 to create an interactive overlay showing the growth of Doha in the last 50 years. Use the slider here to fade between a map of Doha today and the city in 1966.
The Top Secret image was taken by a Cold War satellite, code name “Key Hole” which has since been declassified. These high-resolution images help archaeologists uncover old neighborhoods and streets that have been altered or buried beneath modern construction.
